It All Comes Full Circle

I can be really horrible at "blogging". People keep telling me that the point of a blog is to update it often (I've been told weekly) and to just have your work published in general, for the world to see. I've obviously fallen down on the job. This would be fine and I probably wouldn't care much if I didn't have other people involved in this project--those other people being kind humans who have donated to Something Unexpected. So, to my donors, I apologize profusely. It has been far too long since I've written and, therefore, I have not yet recognized your awesome contributions.

Ashamed as I am to admit it, I am 8 entries behind. (Everyone take a couple of seconds to point and jeer at me.) I will now begin to redeem myself, in order.

Earl Cox, Chief Strategy Officer at the Martin Agency, is truly an amazing guy. It was only the second time I met Earl that I told him about this project. I could tell that he was amused by the idea, and he immediately gave me $20. It was really touching for me, because he barely knew me and, let's face it, Something Unexpected is a little weird. Since then, he has been a really important part of my last semester in graduate school, as he is my senior thesis adviser, and an all around totally awesome guy.

Now, he gave me the very generous donation back in January, and I haven't even given him something unexpected yet. (Everyone point and jeer again.) I have, however, made it--actually, I made it back in January, and it is the "Psychedelic Shorts Until February Kit". Clearly, this is something I made up to help Earl get through the cold dark months of Winter, and it contains a bubble blowing kit, a badminton set, and some great Thomas Harris beach reading. Last, but not least, I hand-painted the box in what I thought was a really, really trippy design--and it even had a tiny umbrella on top.

The only problem is that, now, it is past February and Spring is in full force. Poor Mr. Cox had to brave the Winter without my psychedelic gift. Having said this, February is now 11 months away, and I'll be giving the "Psychedelic Shorts Until February Kit" to him on Tuesday. The gift has come full circle, and he will get more use out of it this way.
